Why does Instagram keep stopping? How to fix it?

App malfunction is probably one of the most annoying things that can happen to any user, and if it happens often, it can take a toll on your mind. There is no second opinion about the fact that Instagram is one of the widely used apps around the globe and you can find it on every second phone. Though it is one of the widely used apps around the globe, it is still prone to crashing. And when it happens, it is probably one of the most frustrating things which can happen to someone. Whenever the app malfunctions, a notification that says ‘ Instagram keeps stopping ‘ will flash on your screen. In this article, I will try to probe probable causes which may cause the app to malfunction and provide solutions to fix this glitch.

Following are some of the steps you may follow to get rid of this glitch.

  • Restart your device: 

More than often, the app malfunction is nothing but just a glitch that can be fixed by effort as minimal as restarting your device. To restart your device, simply press and hold your power button and press restart. Once you successfully reboot your device, open the Instagram app and make sure whether the problem persists or not. If it persists, then try out the following solutions. 

  • Clear Cache:

If the previous solution did not work for you, then you can also try cleaning the data and cache of the app. This may fix the glitch once and for all. Your phone can automatically update it on Instagram for you, or you can also do it manually. For this purpose, you need to open the play store and open the menu. Then proceed to tap My apps & games. Once you do this, you can spot the Instagram app button. Simply tap to update it.

  • Reinstall the app:

If the aforementioned solutions did not work for you, then you may try uninstalling the Instagram app and then reinstall it. To uninstall the app, simply open the settings, click on apps and click on Instagram. Once you’ll tap on Instagram, uninstall button will pop up somewhere on the screen. Click on uninstall and then proceed to restart your device. Once your device restarts, install the app again

  • Install an older version:

If none of the aforementioned solutions work for you, then you can try installing an older version of Instagram. To do so, simply remove the existing version of the app from your cellular device and then proceed to install an older version of Instagram. 

Another thing that you should consider is the number of users of this account. If more than one person is using the account at the same time, maybe that’s the issue. Ask the other users to log out of the account and recheck the app.

  • Check your network connection:

Having a healthy network connection is of great importance when it comes to running the app on your cellular device. If for whatever reasons, the connectivity is unavailable, then it is possible that the app will not load or work. Make sure that the connectivity is available and the data connection is not switched off mistakenly. You must also check if you have data on your device. This is because If you don’t have data on your device, then simply buy the data to access your network connection, and the app would work.

  • Update your device:

This is because both the Android OS and the Instagram app often undergo various upgrades. These upgrades or updates are of crucial importance in keeping the phone and app running.  If your Instagram keeps stopping or crashing, try to update your Android operating system. Once you do that, you can also update the Instagram app.

  • Phone Storage:

One of the many reasons for your app to malfunction is that your phone storage can below, and this could be the reason why your Instagram keeps on crashing. To rectify this problem, simply go to phone storage and free some space. You can delete the cache of all your apps. You can also move files to an SD card, and then delete unneeded files 

  • Factory Reset:

Now this option should never be your top priority and should only be used as a last resort.  But before you proceed with this option, be aware that all your files and documents will be erased. You will not be able to recover them after the reset. Every third-party app, too, will be deleted. This means after the factory reset, you will have to download another Instagram app.
