Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation (HKIRC) would like to express our deepest sympathy and concern in response to the magnitude 8 quake that devastated Sichuan on Monday afternoon (12 May). To play a part in the relief, HKIRC had initiated a donation campaign before Jun 18 to give away HK$10 from the received registration fee of every new domain name. All contributions received had been donated to Hong Kong Red Cross for China Relief Operations. At the same time, in order to show care to the Sichuan children, HKIRC had also organized an online Caring Card campaign, whereby students are called upon to combine knowledge of online drawing and creativity to design caring cards. A total of HK$10,000 had been donated by HKIRC to The Salvation Army.
A new website â www.QuickRelief.hk [www.網ä¸è³ç½.hk as the Chinese website] was developed by HKIRC to show our care collectively via the cyberspace. All parties can make use of the Internet to browse and share information in a prompt, flexible and real-time manner. The new website has extracted information on donation channels and contacts, news announcement etc.
This sudden disaster had claimed the lives of more than 60,000 people, directly affecting the livelihood of 100 million people. The death toll is rising and relief operations have to be undertaken rapidly by various parties to help stranded victims to break away from trauma. Unite Our Care on the Net! Please take action now to express our concern for Sichuan !
